Cardiovascular Disease
Cardiovascular disease remains the largest cause of death in the US and is largely preventable by testing for and reducing risk factors.  One of the most talked about  risk factors is LDL cholesterol.  Not all LDL is the same however.  There are large LDL particles that make the total LDL cholesterol look like it is in the high risk range but really do not contribute much to overall cardiovascular risk, and small LDL particles that are high risk but don't contribute much to the total LDL measurement.  Measuring LDL particle size can easily be done on blood samples when the cholesterol risk is uncertain, and can help decide how aggressive to be when treating cholesterol.
